Books 4 D&D Players

It should surprise no one to learn that some of us M&Q booksellers follow the beautiful game…by which of course we mean the classic tabletop RPG Dungeons & Dragons. Still jonesing for D&D between sessions? Try these new titles that capture the spirit and fun of the world of D&D.

Chaotic Good by Whitney Gardner
$16.19, hardcover

After facing a deluge of online harassment, cosplayer Cameron finds solace at local comics shop. It’s a friendly, welcoming place… if she’s dressed as a man. A YA romance about the difficulty of interacting with territorial geek culture as a woman. Great for fans of Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona!

Delicious in Dungeon (vols 1-???) by Ryoko Kui
$13.50, paperback

A team of fantasy adventurers lose their cleric to a dragon. In an effort to save some cash (and their healer), they cook their way through the dungeon… using the Monster Manual as a menu. Ryoko Kui’s character designs are varied and expressive, and her draftsmanship is beyond compare. You’ve never seen food so tantalizing in black and white– especially never dried slime jerky, mandrake fricasse, or meat carved off a kelpie haunch.

The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins by Clint McElroy, Griffin McElroy, Justin McElroy, Travis McElroy, and Carey Pietsch
$17.99, paperback

Adventurers Magnus, Taako, and Merle venture forth into a world of swords and sorcery in this irreverent “fantasy-adjacent” comic (based on a popular gaming podcast by three brothers and their dad that’s based on a popular advice podcast by three brothers minus their dad). You need never have listened, rolled a die, or performed wet stunts to enjoy the graphic novel. TAZ captures the spirit of a D&D campaign played among good friends, veering from pathos to the absolutely inexplicable. Yes, there’s high drama. There’s also Garfield the Deals Warlock, who manages the Fantasy Costco.

Do you want to join a campaign or start your own? You can order the fifth edition Player’s Handbook, the Dungeon Master’s Guide, and any of the available adventure modules through Magers & Quinn. Call or shop online today!
